In a forceful intelligence operation carried out on February 17, the Ecuadorian Military Forces managed to capture Kevin, alias ‘Camilo’, alleged leader of the FARC dissidents.
The operation, carried out in the Juan Montalvo sector of the Eloy Alfaro canton, in the province of Esmeraldas, allowed the dismantling of a clandestine base of the Oliver Sinisterra Front (FOS) that served as an operations center for extortion and armed protection of illegal mining enclaves in the border area with Colombia.
The assault on the base, a wooden structure hidden in the jungle, led to an intense confrontation when military personnel were met with gunfire.

After applying the progressive use of force, the uniformed officers took control of the sector, capturing alias ‘Camilo’, of Colombian nationality, along with ten other subjects linked to the organization.
According to the authorities, this criminal group was not only dedicated to extortion against local inhabitants, but also guarded strategic corridors of illicit economies in points such as Zapallo Grande and Playa de Oro.
During the search of the property, the troops seized an arsenal that demonstrates the fire capacity of this structure, including an AR15 rifle, shotguns, pistols and abundant war ammunition.
This result represents a relief for the region, where the civilian population has been a victim of constant intimidation and collection of “vaccines.”
