There is deep consternation in the municipality of Santo Tomás, Atlántico, after the almost simultaneous death of a young engineer and his grandfather, which occurred this Friday, December 26, in two different places in the department. The impact of the tragedy has shaken family, friends and the entire community, which is still trying to assimilate how two members of the same family lost their lives just minutes apart.
Young engineer died after suffering a heart attack on a bus in Barranquilla
The events were recorded in the morning, when Carlos Miguel Salas, 22 years old and recently graduated as a civil engineer, was traveling on a public service bus from Santo Tomás to his workplace in Barranquilla. The vehicle was traveling through the Mallorquín sector, in the north of the city, when the young man began to show a sudden deterioration in his health.
According to witnesses, Salas experienced difficulty breathing and severe pain in his chest, before fainting inside the car. Given the situation, the passengers alerted the driver, who stopped driving and immediately requested medical assistance.
Minutes later, an ambulance arrived at the scene; However, when assessed by health personnel, it was confirmed that the young man no longer had vital signs.
According to preliminary versions and testimonies from family members, the engineer would have suffered a sudden heart attack while traveling. His relatives indicated that he suffered from hypertension, a condition that could have influenced the outcome.

His grandfather died minutes later in a clinic in Baranoa
The tragedy deepened shortly afterwards, when the death of his paternal grandfather, Carlos Nelson Salas, 79 years old, who was hospitalized at the Reina Catalina clinic in Baranoa, was announced.
The older adult had been under medical observation for several days due to ischemia, a condition that compromises blood flow to vital organs. According to the medical report, he presented cardiac complications that led to cardiorespiratory arrest.
The temporal proximity between both deaths generated a wave of messages of solidarity on social networks, where friends, acquaintances and residents of Santo Tomás expressed their pain and support to the family in this difficult moment.
Finally, relatives reported that the funeral of grandfather and grandson will take place this Saturday, December 27 at 4:00 in the afternoon, in the Santo Tomás de Villanueva parish, where a Eucharist will be celebrated in their memory.
The wakes will be held in the residences of each one, and later both will be buried in the Santo Tomás Municipal Cemetery, in a farewell that will bring together the community to pay them a last tribute.
