In a lightning operation, the DIAN and the Tax and Customs Police (POLFA) reached a warehouse in the Belén sector, where they discovered a gigantic cache with nearly 40,000 accessories for vehicles that had entered the country illegally.

The merchandise, ready to be distributed in commercial stores, is valued at about $500 million pesos.

The inventory of contraband seized in Medellín seemed like a catalog of “luxuries”: alarms, reversing cameras, state-of-the-art screens, speakers and thousands of LED lights.

According to the authorities, these products did not have import manifests or the minimum legal requirements for their marketing.

“Thanks to intelligence tools, we detected irregular patterns before these products reached citizens’ pockets”DIAN sources explained.

In addition to the financial blow to smugglers, authorities warned drivers about the risks of purchasing these items. Since they do not have origin control or legal guarantees, these accessories can cause electrical failures in vehicles and even fires due to poor quality wiring for alarms or lights.

With this action, we seek to protect not only the State’s collection, but also the employment of those who sell original spare parts and in compliance with the law.

For now, the warehouse remains sealed while investigations continue to find the owners of the shipment.

The POLFA recalled that buying contraband merchandise feeds criminal structures and leaves the consumer without the right to claims.
