Tunja woke up on high alert. Since 5:00 in the morning this Saturday, November 8, the authorities reported the presence of a dump truck loaded with a handmade structure to launch tattoos or cylinder bombs, similar to those used in the 90s by armed groups.

The discovery was recorded in the Prados de Alcalá neighborhood, a few meters from the Bolívar Battalion, which generated panic among the inhabitants of the sector.

Immediately, anti-explosive units of the National Army and the Police arrived at the site and established a wide security cordon to carry out the controlled detonation of the devices.

During the operation, explosives technicians confirmed the execution of two controlled explosions, while nearby residents were evacuated to prevent greater risks.

According to preliminary information provided by the colonel of Tunja, so far no injured people have been reported, although verifications with security cameras continue to identify those responsible for leaving the dump truck in the area.

The vehicle was adapted as a tatuco launching platform, an unconventional device that could have been directed towards the military garrison.

During the detonations, damage was reported to accommodations, structures and vehicles within the Bolívar Battalion, due to the force of the explosion. Images spread on social networks show a dense column of smoke and the fear of residents due to the loud noise.

Another explosion within the Bolívar Battalion

While the authorities were advancing the work of controlled detonation of the dump truck bomb, another explosion was recorded inside the military base. Authorities have not confirmed if there are any injuries and maintain safety protocols activated.

The situation continues to develop, with the presence of the Tunja Metropolitan Police, the National Army and relief organizations that remain in the area.
