In a recent report, the Comptroller General of the Republic assured that the National Government does have the necessary financial resources to immediately address the winter emergency that the country is going through.
According to the organization, the National Risk Management Fund reports an availability of $1.69 billion pesos, added to budget reserves from the previous year close to one billion pesos.
This million-dollar figure could be used immediately in areas that are not compromised, regardless of the urgency of declaring an economic emergency.

The fiscal control entity announced special monitoring of these resources to guarantee that not a single peso is lost in the care of the more than 94,000 affected families in the country.
The magnifying glass will be placed on the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), which has already been required to provide detailed information on its Specific Action Plan. In addition, the Comptroller’s Office will strictly verify that every penny collected through the new tax measures is used solely and exclusively to overcome the climate crisis.
However, the execution panorama raises doubts, since serious failures have been identified in the coordination between municipalities and the UNGRD, which has delayed the arrival of humanitarian aid to critical sectors.
The background does not help: the Comptroller’s Office recalled that in 2023 it had already warned about the low execution of disaster resources and there are currently five fiscal responsibility processes for more than $62,000 million.
With an official balance that already leaves 17 people dead and more than 4,000 homes destroyed, pressure increases on institutions so that the money finally reaches those who lost everything in departments such as La Guajira, Antioquia and Chocó.
