The Colombian Davis Cup Team, under the technical direction of captain Alejandro Falla, already knows its next challenge on the road to the elite of world tennis.

After the official draw held this Thursday, February 12 in London, it was confirmed that the national team will have to face the Netherlands as a visitor during the month of September.

This match is crucial for the country’s aspirations, since a direct berth to the 2027 World Group Qualifiers will be at stake.

To reach this qualifying stage of World Group I, the Colombian delegation has just sealed an important 3-1 victory against Morocco in the Play-off phase.

In that confrontation, played in the city of Casablanca, the player Nicolás Mejía was the great figure in securing two of the fundamental points for the coffee triumph. With this result, Colombia reaffirmed its competitiveness and earned the right to fight for a place in the highest category of the tournament for next season.

The match against the Dutch will mark the third consecutive time that the national team must play away from home, following the line of its previous visits to Slovakia and Morocco.

Colombia will seek its place in the 2027 World Group Qualifiers against the Netherlands

In this regard, Alejandro Falla recognized the complexity of the challenge, pointing out that the Netherlands currently has three players within the Top-100 of the ATP ranking.

The captain emphasized that the remaining time until September will be vital for the Colombian tennis players to improve their classification and arrive in optimal physical and mental conditions to adapt to the demands imposed by the local team.

Regarding the format of the series, the confrontation will be defined by the best of five games distributed over two days of competition.

The first day of action will consist of two individual duels, while the second day will open with the doubles match, followed by the two crossed singles.

Each of these matches will be played in the best of three sets and will include the tie-break system if necessary, ensuring an intense dispute for each point.

The implications of this phase are decisive for the immediate future of both nations in the competition.

The 13 countries that win these World Group I qualifiers will ensure their presence in the 2027 Qualifiers, keeping alive the possibility of fighting for the Davis Cup title next year. On the contrary, teams that do not achieve victory will be forced to compete in the World Group I Play-offs in the following edition.

The series between Colombia and the Netherlands will take place between September 18 and 20, 2026.

This weekend will coincide with the second round of the Qualifiers, where 14 nations will look to join defending champion and host Italy in the grand Final 8 taking place in Bologna from November 24-29.

With this panorama, Colombian tennis is preparing for one of its most demanding events of the year with its sights set on returning to the World Group.
