The Colombian urban cycling delegation is already in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ready to face the World Urban Cycling Championship that will take place from Tuesday, November 4 to Saturday, November 8.
The national quota is made up of three talented riders: Juan Camilo Caicedo and the twin sisters Queen and Lizsurley Villegas, who will seek to raise the name of the country in this important orbital event.
This event marks a milestone, being the first time that the Middle Eastern country hosts an International Cycling Union (UCI) World Championship.
The participation of the three Colombians will focus exclusively on the BMX Freestyle Park events, a modality that has gained international relevance after its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Villegas sisters will compete in the women’s category, while Juan Camilo Caicedo will compete in the men’s category.
The World Championship also brings together the Trials and BMX Freestyle Flatland disciplines, demonstrating the breadth of urban cycling. First-time hosts Saudi Arabia will also host next year’s edition of the championship.
The competition in the Park category promises to be intense given the large global participation. The women’s branch will have 29 riders from 16 countries, while the men’s will be much more crowded, bringing together 58 competitors from 27 nations.

Due to the large number of participants, the men’s event will implement a longer format that includes a qualifying round, semifinals and the grand final. For its part, the women’s competition will be defined after a qualification round and the final instance.
The calendar of activities for Colombians began with group training days this Tuesday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 5, essential for the athletes’ adaptation to the track.
The men’s qualifying rounds will take place on Thursday, followed by the women’s on Friday. This last day will also be crucial, as the men’s semifinals will be played.
The excitement of the medals and the rainbow jerseys will come next Saturday, the day on which the finals are scheduled for both the women’s and men’s categories.
