The night of candles, on December 7, left a new controversy in the El Bosque Penitentiary, in Barranquilla, where alleged members of the criminal gang Los Costeños staged a clandestine party with music, lights and alcoholic beverages inside the prison.

Videos spread on social networks show how several cells were decorated with Christmas decorations, speakers and a television with music video clips, as if it were a celebration outside of prison.

Residents of the sector even reported that, during the night, explosions were heard that seemed to come from inside the prison.

It is not the first time that this place has been involved in scandals due to illicit celebrations; During 2025, other parties were already known within the prison, including one on the occasion of the Day of Love and Friendship.

After the leak of the videos, the regional director of Inpec, Jim Nelson Muñoz, confirmed the opening of an internal investigation to establish who allowed the celebration.

According to reports, two inmates involved (prosecuted for conspiracy to commit a crime and extortion) have already been identified, and their transfer to other prisons in the country as a disciplinary measure has not been ruled out.

The investigation also points to some dragoneers who, allegedly, facilitated the entry of prohibited elements and allowed the party to take place.

“In the candlelight night party there were alcoholic beverages, loud music and even a television to project videos. We have already begun investigations against the inmates and the officials involved”said Muñoz.

Citizens in Barranquilla demand stricter controls inside El Bosque, where members of Los Costeños are serving sentences and have been involved in repeated episodes of disorder and illicit privileges.

Inpec reported that in the coming days the decisions and sanctions derived from the case will be known, while the verification of responsibilities continues.
