The Mayor’s Office of Medellín closes the year with a positive balance in its crusade to improve coexistence and care of the city. After two years of implementation, the “Medellín is the City” strategy has directly impacted 51,780 people with citizen culture actions.
The initiative, which seeks to strengthen the concept of “living well together,” has deployed activities in the 16 communes and five townships of the city, focusing on increasing the sense of belonging and promoting responsible behavior.
The backbone of “Medellín is the City” lies in recognizing and making visible exemplary citizens, taking advantage of social influence to shape collective expectations. Under this approach, the administration has worked on several fronts that are crucial for the daily lives of the inhabitants.
During the first half of the year, “Medellín, Together on Time” was launched, a campaign focused on the correct disposal of waste and promoting appropriate schedules for taking out garbage.

Later, in the second semester, the “Medellín, My Pride” initiative focused on strengthening trust between neighbors and love for the territory, highlighting the value of the people as the main driving force of the Antioquia capital.
Additionally, 30 Citizen Culture Laboratories were carried out, community intervention processes that dealt with such sensitive issues as controlling Neighborhood Noise, responsible pet ownership, interpersonal trust and handling quarrels.

These interventions were developed in prioritized neighborhoods such as La Milagrosa, El Pedregal, Loreto, Boston, Alfonso López and the town of San Cristóbal, among others.
To formalize the recognition, the “Medellín is the City” strategy delivered 820 of its badges to territorial teams, with which 65,500 “cultas” were distributed to citizens who actively contributed to coexistence.
The Mayor’s Office hopes that the actions implemented, together with the results that the next Citizen Culture Survey will yield, will strengthen interpersonal and institutional relationships and consolidate Medellín as a benchmark for coexistence.
