The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) delivered a positive balance after the activation of its 24/7 hotline, reporting the recovery of more than 50 wild animals in the Sumapaz region.
Among the most notable cases is the rescue of a female two-toed sloth in the municipality of San Bernardo, which was saved by a resident of a farm just before being attacked by a pack of dogs.
Érika Álvarez, regional director of the CAR, explained that after verifying that the sloth was in optimal condition, it was released in the La Victoria River nature reserve in Silvania. However, not all cases have been chance encounters; The citizen complaint was vital for the rescue of 34 Creole canaries in Fusagasugá.

The offensive against trafficking also left results in Chinauta, where the Carabineros Police and a canine guide intercepted a bus traveling from Ibagué to Bogotá with 21 birds hidden, among tanned and turpial parakeets; The person responsible was placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office.
Finally, highly complex cases such as a white-tailed deer with multiple fractures and an injured carach were transferred to specialized centers.
The authorities recalled that the line 316 524 4031 remains open permanently to guarantee that the fauna of the department is not a victim of illegal trade or mistreatment.
