A car bomb exploded on the morning of this Friday, November 14, on the Pan-American Highway, very close to the old Tunía tollbooth, in the jurisdiction of Piendamó, Cauca. Presumably, the person responsible for the terrorist action would be the fatal victim.
According to the preliminary version, the vehicle loaded with explosives detonated before reaching its objective, a checkpoint installed by the Police on that stretch of the highway.
The authorities attribute this failed act to the dissidents of alias ‘Iván Mordisco’. The explosion caused the electrical networks to be knocked down, leaving the villages of La María, Los Naranjos and El Hogar without power service.

This terrorist act adds to a streak of violence that has put regional security in check. Hours before, in the early morning, the caravan of the senator and former governor of Cauca, Temístocles Ortega, was attacked with gunfire by armed men in two vehicles, just at the entrance to Popayán. The senator was unharmed thanks to the skill of the driver and the reaction of his escort.
The governor of Valle, Dilian Francisca Toro, came forward, attributing these acts to a direct reaction from illegal armed groups. According to the president, it is a response to the recent bombings carried out by the Public Force against camps associated with the leader ‘Iván Mordisco’ in the south of the country.
