A joint operation between the National Police and the Army allowed the capture of a man involved in the kidnapping of two bodyguards and the theft of a van belonging to the National Protection Unit (UNP), in events that occurred on the road that connects Popayán with Cali, in the department of Cauca.
According to the authorities, the captured man was surprised when he was traveling in a truck with two men held against his will.
The victims were identified as UNP escorts, who were carrying out security duties for the peasant leader Camilo López, a member of the Integration Committee of the Colombian Massif (CIMAC).

The first investigations revealed that the bodyguards had been intercepted and stripped of a truck, assigned to López’s protection scheme. In addition, the vehicle in which the captured person was traveling had a report of theft.
During the procedure, the uniformed officers found two 9 mm caliber pistols, 36 cartridges, a bulletproof vest and personal documents of the victims.
The detainee, along with the seized items, was placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office. The authorities reiterated their commitment to reinforce controls in the country’s road corridors to prevent criminal structures from using the roads for criminal purposes.
