An Icelandic citizen wanted by Colombian justice was captured in the Laureles neighborhood, in western Medellín, for his alleged responsibility in a case of commercial sexual exploitation of a minor.
The procedure was carried out by units of the National Police during surveillance and control tasks on public roads.
According to official information, the captured person is an Icelandic citizen, identified as Borkelsson, approximately 40 years old, who was wanted by a court order issued by a guarantee control court for the crime of demanding sexual exploitation with a person under 18 years of age.
The capture materialized after the uniformed officers verified his identity in the information systems and confirmed that he had a current requirement.
The authorities indicated that the foreigner would be linked to events that occurred at the beginning of December in the same sector of Laureles, where he allegedly contacted a 15-year-old teenager.
The case is under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, which is collecting evidence and testimonies.

During the procedure, and in order to guarantee due process, the Police were accompanied by a translator assigned to the Tourism and National Heritage Protection Group, which allowed correct communication with the captured person and notification of their rights.
At the time of the capture, the man was in the company of a 17-year-old girl and her mother. Given this situation, the minor was immediately placed under the protection of the Childhood and Adolescence Group of the Police and left at the disposal of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), the entity in charge of carrying out the process of verification and restoration of rights.
The authorities reiterated their call to report any situation related to the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, and recalled that Medellín maintains permanent operations to prevent this crime and protect the minor population, especially against risks associated with sexual tourism.
