On the night of November 26, two Army soldiers were found dead inside a vehicle at the North Canton facilities in Bogotá, after several gunshots were heard.

The deceased were identified as Captain Pablo Masmela and Second Lieutenant María Mora, who would have maintained a romantic relationship. According to preliminary information from the Military Education Center, the captain allegedly shot his ex-partner before taking his own life.

The second lieutenant was undergoing a retraining process in Tolemaida and requested permission to attend an event. He went to the Infantry School, where the captain was advancing the course to be promoted to major, with the purpose of picking up another person and then going to a concert at the Movistar Arena.

The National Army confirmed the facts through a statement: “Preliminarily, it was established that these events would allegedly be related to situations of a personal nature.”

A third officer, also a second lieutenant in the Army, witnessed the crime and became the main witness of the events. The military institution activated psychosocial support protocols for family and friends of the victims.
