The Bogotá Metro Company (EMB) officially announced the opening of a public call to hire the specialized consultancy that will put the magnifying glass on the feasibility studies of the extension of Line 1 to 100th Street.
With a budget of more than $4.5 billion pesos, the mayor’s office is looking for experts to give the technical, legal and financial “go-ahead” to this expansion that promises to change the face of the north of the city.
This private initiative, originally presented by the Chinese company CHEC, seeks to ensure that the viaduct does not end at 72nd Street, but rather continues straight to 100th Street.
The objective is ambitious: to decongest the 72nd node and connect the Bogotá Metro with the TransMilenio trunk on 68th Avenue and the future Regiotram del Norte on 94th Street. Basically, it is about putting together a transportation “puzzle” that allows citizens to move from the south to the North Sabana in an integrated and rapid way.

While it is defined who will carry out the evaluation of this extension, the people of Bogota are already beginning to see the fruits of the current works.

The new 26th Street station is about to open its doors: it is 8 meters wide and, most importantly for many, 12 floor-to-ceiling access barriers to stop the trainees in their tracks. “You can see the difference, it looks safer and more spacious,” comment users who pass through the area daily.
The goal of Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, under the ‘Bogotá Walk Safely’ plan, is to have this extension contracted before his government ends.
If the consultant chosen in the coming months gives the green light to feasibility, a public tender will be opened to award the work. For now, the dream of seeing the subway rolling down 100th Street is just six months of consulting work away from becoming a contractual reality.
