The Mayor’s Office of Cali, through the Special Administrative Unit for Animal Protection (Uaepa) and the Animal Welfare Center (CBA), promptly responded to a citizen complaint for alleged animal abandonment in Commune 20, reaffirming its commitment to the protection and well-being of animals in the city.

During the operation, carried out in coordination with the Police Inspection, two geriatric dogs were found in abandoned conditions, with poor body condition and health problems.

One of them has advanced periodontal disease and a neoformation near the vulva. Both were transferred to the Animal Welfare Center, where they currently receive comprehensive medical care from the veterinary team.

Carmen Elena Domínguez Murillo, director of the CBA, highlighted the importance of citizen complaints as a fundamental tool for animal protection. “Thanks to the complaint, it was possible to act immediately. We invite all citizens to continue reporting these cases and to remember that an animal is a responsibility for life,” he emphasized.

After verification at the scene and the support of the community, it was evident that the animals had been abandoned for several days, presumably due to the health condition of their owner. Given this situation, preventive material provision and the transfer of the canines to the Animal Welfare Center was recommended.

Likewise, a process was opened for alleged animal abuse, in accordance with the provisions of Law 84 of 1989. Monitoring will be carried out to determine the situation of other animals present in the place, as well as the necessary measures to guarantee their protection and well-being, including the possibility of finding new homes for them.

The District Administration, led by Mayor Alejandro Eder, continues to strengthen institutional articulation and work with citizens, with the purpose of preventing abandonment and guaranteeing the protection of life in all its forms.
