The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, and the Metropolitan Police announced an unprecedented offensive against crime in the city.
Under the name ‘Cali United for Security’, the mayor’s office will launch a shock plan that includes a historic investment of more than $330 billion pesos to protect the city.
Mayor Eder detailed that $180 billion will be allocated to strengthen Police logistics and another $150 billion from the Invest to Grow program for infrastructure and cutting-edge technology.
The big bet is to turn Cali into a “technological fortress”: cameras with Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be installed, fleets of drones will be deployed for aerial surveillance and a specialized system will be activated to prevent terrorist attacks, an investment that the city has not seen for years.

For his part, Brigadier General Edwin Urrego, commander of the Cali Police, assured that “they have not rested for a second” and that they already have a clear map of the dynamics of the crime.
The official announced a strengthening of specialized units (such as the GOES and the SIJIN) and an increase in checkpoints at strategic points to improve the perception of security of both Cali residents and tourists. “The challenge is great, but with these tools we are going to anticipate unfortunate events,” said Urrego.
The strategy seeks to attack homicide and theft head-on, crimes that have generated fear in neighborhoods and commercial areas. The authorities called on citizens to actively collaborate by reporting any suspicious movement to line 123.
With this deployment of technology and public force, Cali hopes that 2026 will be the year in which the balance finally tips in favor of coexistence and order.
