A serious residential security incident generated commotion in the north of Barranquilla, after a pit bull dog attacked a 10-year-old child in the hallways of the 11th floor of tower 1A of the Río Alto building.

The attack left the minor with injuries to his face that forced his immediate transfer to a healthcare center, where he had to undergo plastic surgery procedures due to the severity of the injuries.

According to Jaime Andrés Delgado, the minor’s father, the boy was looking for a friend to play soccer when he was surprised by the pit bull.

The attack was recorded on a security camera that shows the moment in which the animal leaves an apartment without a collar, without a muzzle and without any type of control, lunging directly at the minor and cornering him in the hallway. The dog’s owner tried to stop him, but the attack lasted for about 20 seconds.

Neighbors of the building stated that there were already previous concerns about the presence of the canine in common areas, since it is a breed considered potentially dangerous, and it had to have strict security measures.

After taking refuge in an apartment, the boy was transferred to the Portoazul Clinic, where it was confirmed that he had four-centimeter wounds on his cheek and nose, as well as scratches on his hands.

The minor’s father announced that he will initiate legal action against the owner of the animal and asked the authorities to reinforce controls on the possession of special handling dogs in residential spaces.
