Facatativá, Cundinamarca – Colombia successfully closed its participation in the South American Cross Country Championship, held last Saturday, November 8 at the Piedras del Tunjo Archaeological Park in Facatativá.

The national delegation won a total of four medals: one silver and three bronze, in an event that brought together the best talents in the region in the Senior, U-20 and U-18 categories.

The Cundinamarca municipality was the scene of the competition, which took place on a demanding two-kilometer circuit adapted for the different distances of the individual events and the mixed relay.

The silver medal came from the hand of Jesús David Amador in the eight kilometer test of the men’s U-20 category. Amador recorded a time of 27:51, placing himself behind the Peruvian Edwar Márquez (26:49).

Erika Tatiana Torres took third place in the U-20 women’s six kilometers with a mark of 25:44, in a test dominated by the Peruvians Ytala Canchanya and Hilda Huaman.

In the U-18 female category, María Alejandra Ramírez won bronze after completing the four-kilometer route in 17:06. As in the other categories, Peru occupied the first two places on the podium.

The Colombian 4×2,000 mixed relay team also reached the podium, winning the bronze medal. The quartet made up of Rubén Barbosa, Leidy Tatiana Rivera, Rolando Gabriel Ortiz and Karol Luna clocked 28:17.

The gold in this vibrant test went to the Peruvian delegation (25.43), while the silver went to Brazil (26.35).

The Colombian performance at home demonstrates the potential of national Cross Country athletics, obtaining podiums in various categories and adding valuable points in the regional championship.
