A quick police operation in the Villa Colombia neighborhood, in the northeast of Cali, prevented an attempted robbery of a financial institution from becoming a successful coup. Two men, both of foreign nationality, were captured after confronting the authorities and trying to escape with more than 12 million pesos.

The incident occurred when Metropolitan Police patrols were carrying out prevention work in the area. Upon noticing suspicious movements near the bank, the uniformed officers approached the scene, at which point the criminals reacted by shooting at the patrol to try to flee.

Thanks to the immediate intervention, the agents managed to intercept the suspects a few meters from the branch, preventing the robbery from being completed. During the procedure, a revolver with six cartridges and a traumatic weapon were seized, in addition to recovering all of the stolen money. No injuries were reported.

Brigadier General Henry Yesid Bello Cubides highlighted that, so far in 2025, the Police have captured more than 1,290 people for qualified and aggravated robbery, a figure that represents a 16% reduction compared to the previous year.

The authorities stressed the importance of citizen collaboration to prevent crime. Timely reporting and information provided by the community are fundamental tools to guarantee the effectiveness of this type of operation.
