Air operations at the Ernesto Cortissoz airport in Barranquilla were completely suspended this Friday morning, December 12, after a cargo aircraft suffered a technical incident that left it immobilized on the main runway.

The event generated delays at different airports in the country and affected hundreds of passengers who were waiting to meet their itineraries.

According to reports from Aerocivil, the plane, belonging to the Aerosucre airline, presented an unexpected failure in the left landing gear just during the return maneuver.

The structure would have partially given way, causing the aircraft to hit the taxiing surface and end up stopped in the operational area, blocking the runway for takeoffs and landings.

Although the emergency activated security protocols, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among the crew or airport staff. Aeronautical firefighting teams and specialized technicians immediately responded to evaluate the aircraft and coordinate its removal, a process that has taken longer than expected due to structural damage to the landing gear.

The suspension in Barranquilla has already generated a domino effect in terminals such as El Dorado, where dozens of travelers report long waiting hours, cancellations and rescheduling. Among those affected are Junior fans who travel to the Atlantic capital for the final of the BetPlay 2025 League.

Aerosucre issued a statement ensuring that it cooperates with the investigation and reiterated its commitment to operational safety.

For its part, Avianca activated a protection plan that includes free changes and relocations via Cartagena or Santa Marta, depending on availability.

In parallel, Satena announced new routes from Barranquilla to Montería, Valledupar, Bucaramanga and Aguachica, expanding the air offer in the Caribbean in the midst of this contingency.
