In a strategic move that seeks to position his candidacy in the spectrum of the international right, Abelardo De La Espriella made his adherence to the Madrid Charter official after a high-level meeting with Santiago Abascal, president of Vox.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Disenso Foundation in the Spanish capital, marks the formal integration of the Colombian lawyer and presidential candidate into the network of leaders that includes figures such as Javier Milei (Argentina), Giorgia Meloni (Italy) and María Corina Machado (Venezuela).
The front against “narco-communism”
During the meeting, De La Espriella was emphatic in pointing out that his political project seeks to combat the ideological structures that, according to him, threaten the sovereignty of Ibero-American nations from platforms such as the Puebla Group.
“We are together in the fight to confront narco-communism. Freedom, prosperity and private property are not extremes; they are the founding principles of Western society,” declared the leader of Defenders of the Homeland.
For his part, Santiago Abascal celebrated the incorporation of De La Espriella, highlighting the importance of having allies in Colombia who defend the rule of law against authoritarian models.
Axes of the international alliance
The signing of the Madrid Charter by De La Espriella is not only a symbolic gesture, but establishes a roadmap for cooperation on several fronts:
Defense of freedom of expression and equality before the law.
Political cooperation to stop the advance of regimes aligned with the São Paulo Forum.
Strengthening national sovereignty and democratic institutions.
With this international support, Abelardo De La Espriella seeks to project an image of institutional solidity and global support in the face of the presidential race in Colombia, aligning himself with the right-wing movements that have recently gained ground in Europe and Latin America.
