Minute30.com .- A violent disturbance of public order shook the municipality of Pitalito, Huila, in the last hours. What began as a routine procedure to protect a family ended in a pitched battle that left one person dead and a uniformed member of the National Police injured.
The events broke out in the La Pradera neighborhood, when the community requested the presence of the quadrant patrol to attend to an alleged case of domestic violence that occurred in the middle of a public street. Upon arriving at the site, the uniformed officers tried to mediate the situation, but were received with hostility by a group of people who began a riot against the authority.
The moment of the attack
According to official statements, the situation escalated to critical levels when one of those involved in the fight attacked a police officer in order to take away his weapon. Faced with the imminent risk to his life and that of his companions, the uniformed officer reacted by firing his firearm.
The injured man was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention. For his part, the police officer affected by the physical aggression of the crowd was evaluated and, according to the medical report, he is out of danger.
“In the middle of the situation, a person tried to take the weapon from one of the police officers; the uniformed man activated his weapon and shot at this person who later died,” confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Hedel GarcĂa Medina, commander of the Fifth Police District in Huila.
Judicial balance
The serious incident in the La Pradera neighborhood left a final balance of one deceased person, one uniformed man injured during the struggle and one captured, who was caught actively participating in the brawl and will now have to respond to the Attorney General’s Office for the crimes of violence against a public servant and riot.
The Huila authorities regretted the outcome of this operation and recalled that domestic violence and resistance to authority are behaviors that seriously affect citizen coexistence.
