A landslide left the road that connects Medellín with the town of Santa Elena completely blocked during the afternoon of this Thursday, February 5. The mass movement was recorded around 4:00 pm at kilometer 11+200, in the sector known as Paso Malo, which forced the total closure of the road on both roads. According to authorities, fortunately no affected people or vehicles were reported.

The Medellín Mobility Secretariat indicated that, in addition to the closure due to the landslide, a preventive closure is maintained at the El Silletero sector due to recent rains, which could generate interruptions in traffic and risks for drivers.

Given this situation, the authorities recommended several alternative routes: drivers coming from Medellín can take Las Palmas Avenue and continue along the Llano, Perico and Pantanillo paths to reach Santa Elena. Those traveling from the north of the city can use the Medellín–Bogotá Highway and later enter the Piedras Blancas sector or Arví Park.

The Ministry of Mobility reminded drivers of the importance of traveling with caution, respecting traffic signs and anticipating possible delays, while the collapse is attended to and the reopening of the main road is determined.

This landslide adds to other road emergencies that affect the area during the rainy season, which is why authorities reiterate the need to stay informed about the state of the roads before moving to the east of Medellín.
