Colombia’s sports calendar for 2026 is presented as one of the most demanding and ambitious in recent times, with an agenda that ranges from European snow to the heat of the Caribbean and the Southern Cone.
International activity for national athletes begins early with the Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina, Italy, held from February 6 to 22.
In this edition, the country will be represented by Fredrik Fodstad in the cross-country skiing modality, marking Colombia’s fourth historical presence in these events after debuts and participations in Vancouver 2010, PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022.
After the winter event, the spotlight will pass to the new generations of athletes trained under the development programs of the Ministry of Sports.
The first big challenge for these under-19 talents will be the South American Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Panama from April 12 to 25.
This event will serve as an essential thermometer to measure the country’s generational change in various disciplines, consolidating the training processes that are carried out at the national level.
In the middle of the year, Colombia will assume a leading role as host by hosting the Parasuramerican Games in Valledupar.
From July 5 to 16, the capital of Cesar will be the stage where the country will seek to ratify its status as a world power in adapted sports.
Colombia prepares for a historic 2026 in the Olympic and Paralympic cycle
For this organization, the National Government has allocated an investment of close to 20,000 million pesos, ensuring the necessary infrastructure and logistics to receive outstanding Paralympic medalists and delegations from across the continent.
The route to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will continue with two fundamental stops in the second half of the year.
First, Colombian athletes will travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games between July 24 and August 8.
Almost immediately, the national delegation must prepare for the South American Games, which will take place in the Argentine cities of Rosario and Santa Fe from September 12 to 26, events that define the country’s regional positioning in the Olympic cycle.
The closing of this hectic season will be marked by youth and international projection on two simultaneous fronts.
In November, Caracas will host the Bolivarian Youth Games, while globally, the spotlight will be on Dakar, Senegal, for the Youth Olympic Games from October 31 to November 13.
To support this entire operation, the Ministry of Sports has confirmed a total budget of 45.3 billion pesos in 2026, intended to guarantee the preparation and participation of athletes in the Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic systems.
