Cali closed January 2026 with stability in homicides and a notable reduction in the main theft crimes, according to the security balance presented by the Mayor’s Office and the National Police, with analysis from the Security Observatory.

During the first month of the year, 94 homicides were recorded, the same figure reported in January 2025. This result reflects the adjustments made by the District Security and Justice Secretariat to strengthen the homicide reduction strategy.

Colonel Andrés Arias, deputy commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, highlighted that in January there were three days without non-consecutive homicides. In addition, he noted that 520 people were captured for different crimes, 107 firearms were seized and 170 vehicles were recovered, thanks to the coordinated work between the Police, the Mayor’s Office and the Public Force.

Reduction of theft in all modalities

The beginning of 2026 also shows positive results in property crimes. Common theft went from 1,662 cases in January 2025 to 1,310 in 2026, which represents a decrease of 21%, equivalent to 352 fewer cases.

Other notable decreases include:

• Theft from people: -17% (249 fewer cases)
• Shoplifting: -69%
• Theft from residences: -6%
• Cell phone theft: -37%

These figures reflect the impact of control operations, strengthening of patrols and targeted actions against criminal structures that affect citizen coexistence.

Motorcycle theft: the trend is reversed

One of the most relevant achievements of the beginning of the year is the reduction in motorcycle theft, which had shown an increase in 2025. In January 2026, 211 cases were registered, compared to 301 in the same month of the previous year, which represents a decrease of 30%.

The Police attribute this reduction to specific controls, background checks, operations against illegal markets and greater coordination with judicial authorities, measures that will be reinforced in the coming months within the new comprehensive security approach of the District Administration.

With this beginning of the year, the authorities highlight that security in Cali shows positive signs, with results that aim to consolidate the reduction of homicides and thefts, improve the perception of security among citizens and maintain control over the crimes that most affect urban coexistence.
