Human cruelty against nature has once again become evident in Antioquia after the rescue of two specimens of wildlife that suffered unimaginable torture in captivity.
The first case, reported in the last few hours by the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area, involves a male white-faced monkey that was used as an “object of entertainment” by a citizen who supplied it with alcoholic beverages.
Upon arriving at the Care, Assessment and Rehabilitation Center (CAVR), the veterinarians discovered a scene of horror: the animal’s teeth were traumatically knocked out to prevent bites, which caused severe gingivitis and the inability to feed itself.
The second case of rescued wildlife is that of a small baby female. After spending two months kidnapped in a home, the monkey was found wearing diapers, with her ears pierced to wear earrings and even with her nails painted with nail polish.

According to Alejandro Vásquez Campuzano, deputy environmental director of the entity, the animal has skin lesions due to the constant rubbing of the diaper and a case of acute stress due to human handling.

These practices, although they may seem “careful” to some, represent abuse that irreversibly alters the natural behavior of the species.
Environmental authorities warned that these are not isolated events, since since 2024 52 white-faced monkeys have been received in a territory where this species does not even live naturally, which confirms the illegal trafficking route.
Wildlife are not pets and their possession constitutes an environmental crime that carries serious legal penalties. The call to citizens is forceful: report any case of captivity through line 123.
