The relationship between Colombia and the United States has taken a definitive turn towards a strategic alliance after the historic meeting on February 3 in Washington.

President Gustavo Petro and his counterpart Donald Trump sealed a pact that promises to be the terror of the big bosses. As revealed by the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, the atmosphere between both leaders was surprisingly fluid, making the US government commit to collaborating without impositions.

In this new stage, the priority is clear: go after “high-value targets” through shared intelligence that will not give respite to criminal groups.

At the White House table, the Colombian team put their own names on the table: aliases “Pablito” from the ELN, “Iván Mordisco” and “Chiquito Malo” are already in the crosshairs of this strategic alliance.

Minister Sánchez confirmed that even hours before the meeting, a forceful bombardment was carried out in Catatumbo as a sign of the escalation in the offensive. Trump, for his part, was proactive by directly asking how else he could serve Colombia, which opens the door to more Black Hawk helicopters and, especially, cutting-edge technology to stop drone attacks that have affected public forces.

Beyond the bullets, the meeting addressed the root solution in the countryside, proposing to replace coca with cocoa, coffee and coconut with the help of the farmers.

In addition, strict surveillance was proposed so that drug traffickers who serve jail time in the United States do not commit crimes again.

With the support of the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, this union seeks to strengthen the autonomy of Colombia, making it clear that, although the intelligence is American, the execution will continue to be the responsibility of our military and police.
