The morning of this Monday, February 2, began with severe trauma for those trying to reach El Dorado International Airport.

A group of taxi drivers staged a demonstration on Avenida El Dorado (Calle 26) with Carrera 105, blocking the west-east direction and generating a partial paralysis in one of the most strategic road corridors in the capital.

The protest, which began before 9:30 am, forced the Civil Traffic Agents and the Guide Group to intervene urgently to prevent hundreds of travelers from missing their flights.

The main reason for this demonstration is the forceful rejection of the “yellow” union to the operation of private vehicles and white vans that provide services through digital platforms.

Drivers demand that the National Government and local authorities strengthen controls against what they call “illegal transportation.”

This mobilization occurs in a context of high tension, just when a bill is advancing in Congress that seeks to impose severe fines not only on drivers of applications such as Uber or Didi, but also on users and even residential units that allow their operation.

Around 10:23 am, the Ministry of Mobility confirmed that the protesters left the road, allowing passage in both directions again. However, the impact on traffic was felt for much of the morning, forcing many passengers to walk with their suitcases to reach the terminals.

Although the road is now clear, the leaders of the taxi drivers union warned that these days of “arms down” and lightning blockades could be repeated if concrete actions against digital competition are not seen.
