The Executive Committee of Panam Sports, in close coordination with the Local Organizing Committee, has made official an adjustment to the calendar of the XX Pan American Games Lima 2027.
After a series of technical evaluations, it was determined that the continent’s largest sporting event will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2027.
This change represents a shift of one week from the original programming, a decision based mainly on the need to optimize the organization in the face of the large calendar of international events planned for that year.
The modification was announced after a four-day supervision visit led by Neven Ilic, president of Panam Sports, who toured emblematic venues such as the Pan American Village, the National Sports Village (VIDENA) and the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex with his delegation.
During these work days, the authorities confirmed the excellent condition of the infrastructure inherited from the 2019 Games, highlighting that the maintenance and continuous use of the venues guarantee a solid foundation for the success of the new edition.
Lima 2027 reschedules its opening date: the Pan American Games will begin on July 23
Institutional support for competition was reaffirmed after a strategic meeting at the Government Palace between Neven Ilic and the President of the Republic of Peru, José Jerí.
At this meeting, the president ratified the total commitment of the Peruvian State to the organization, while the sports leadership emphasized that, although the infrastructure is practically ready, efforts must now focus on logistics and operation to exceed the standards achieved a few years ago.
With the new date established, the opening ceremony will mark the start of the competitions on Friday, July 23, culminating with the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 8.
This event will not only bring together more than 7,000 athletes from 41 nations, but will also consolidate itself as the most relevant qualifying platform for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, promising to be a historic edition under the leadership of the Organizing Committee headed by Sergio Ludeña.
