In a statement that has shaken the foundations of the Casa de Nariño, President Gustavo Petro publicly admitted the existence of a corruption network within the interventions of the EPS, pointing directly to his inner circle, Laura Sarabia.

The president described as a ‘betrayal’ the fact that resumes not authorized by him had been used to name the auditors who are today under the scrutiny of the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged diversion of public resources towards private interests.

The epicenter of this scandal lies in what the president called “doing business” with Colombians’ money.

According to the investigations that Petro is now validating, the auditors assigned to entities such as Coosalud and Famisanar would have prioritized payment to a select group of IPS linked to a Spanish firm called Venum Investments 2020.

This administrative ‘betrayal’ allowed resources destined for public hospitals to end up in the accounts of paper companies in Madrid, Spain, affecting the operation of the health system in critical regions such as Boyacá, Armenia and Bogotá.

During an official event at the Casa de Nariño, Petro addressed the former Health Superintendent, Luis Carlos Leal, to reproach him for accepting candidates imposed under the name of Laura Sarabia.

“I told you, as a matter of policy, not a single auditor gets involved, you choose the best. And you let yourself be deceived and the first thing they did was give you some resumes, which I did not include, but they said it was me, Laura, and that was a deception,” said the head of state.

The revelation suggests that the current ambassador to the United Kingdom would have managed key appointments that ended up favoring a business network that raised public money irregularly.

For her part, Laura Sarabia responded sharply from London, ensuring that her management has been transparent and that she has chats that deny her participation in the appointment of these officials.

However, the seriousness of the betrayal denounced by the president himself has revived doubts about the suitability of his inner circle.
