Medellín begins to see the light after the fury of nature. After a Wednesday marked by floods and blackouts, Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) confirmed that 97% of the affected customers in El Poblado have already recovered electrical infrastructure service.
The crews have worked tirelessly since yesterday afternoon to repair the damage caused mainly by the fall of trees on the high-voltage networks, allowing the majority of homes and businesses in El Poblado to return to their usual activity this Thursday, January 29.
However, the battle against the mud and darkness continues at specific points. The technical staff is now concentrating its efforts on normalizing the service for the remaining 3% of those affected, which corresponds to 334 facilities located in the Cola del Zorro sector.

At this point, the damage to the infrastructure is of greater magnitude due to the complexity of the terrain and the amount of vegetation that collapsed on the cables. EPM estimates that during the course of the day, full fluid restitution will be achieved once the high-tension maneuvers are completed.
The balance of the emergency reveals an unprecedented institutional deployment: more than 300 officials from entities such as Firefighters, Mobility, Infrastructure and Emvarias remain on the streets.

The cleaning work has been titanic, with the collection of 71 cubic meters of mud and the washing of approximately 2,300 square meters of public space.
Despite the 250 calls received to line 123 and the obvious damage to the road and electrical infrastructure, the official report is one of relief: there were no deaths, injuries or animals affected by the storm.
The Mayor’s Office of Medellín maintains preventive monitoring throughout the area, ensuring that the work will not stop.
