Minute30.com .- On the afternoon of this Thursday, January 29, an atmosphere of uncertainty took over the center of Bogotá. Around 2:30 pm, the Palace of Justice had to be evacuated preventively after officials and visitors reported pungent and strange odors in the facilities. The emergency was initially concentrated in the systems wing and on the side where the Council of State operates.
Mass evacuation and emergency response
Approximately 600 people left the building following security protocols. Two machines from the Official Bogotá Fire Department were immediately sent to the scene, whose units began the technical inspection to identify the source of the odors and rule out risks of asphyxiation or fire.
So far, authorities have not reported injuries or fatalities, but the restriction on entry to the facility remains in place while the affected areas are ventilated.
The “smell” mystery: Is it really carbon dioxide?
Although the first versions from witnesses spoke of possible odors of carbon dioxide (CO2), it is still not known where the strange odors came from.

Focus of the emergency: The systems wing
Initial inspections suggest that the origin of the problem lies in one of the old computer rooms. It is being investigated whether a short circuit or a failure in a server cooling system caused the vapors to be released that triggered the alarms.
