The climate emergency in the capital of Antioquia does not give up this Wednesday, January 28. After the damage reported in the low-lying areas, the force of nature took its toll on the El Tesoro sector, in the El Poblado neighborhood, where an impressive downpour transformed the steep streets into mighty rivers.

The magnitude of the runoff was such that the sewage system was completely overwhelmed, generating scenes of panic among drivers and pedestrians.

Several videos captured by citizens show the anguish of the motorcyclists, who fought against the current to prevent their vehicles from being swept down the hill.

The downpour completely collapsed mobility in the vicinity of the shopping center and nearby residential units, forcing motorists to stop. At several points, the water level reached such a height that the platforms disappeared under the mud and waste.

The situation in El Tesoro is added to the fall of a large tree and a light pole on the Transversal Superior, consolidating a critical afternoon for commune 14.

Because the rains persist with intensity, risk management authorities maintain special surveillance in this sector.

Pedestrians and workers in the area had to seek refuge in commercial premises while they waited for the water level to recede.

The MedellĂn Mobility Secretariat reiterated the call for caution, asking citizens not to try to cross water currents and look for alternative routes.
