Uncertainty grows around the disappearance of flight NSE 8849 that covered the Cúcuta – Ocaña route. In a second official statement issued today, the SATENA airline confirmed that, as of 2:00 p.m. (local time), the aircraft with registration HK-4709 officially exhausted its flight autonomy time.
Search intensification
Since the initial loss of communication was reported at 11:54 am, a large search and rescue operation has been deployed. Aircraft from the Colombian Aerospace Force, the National Army and the SEARCA company have carried out constant overflights in the areas where the last contact was recorded, in addition to executing exhaustive search patterns along the entire planned route.
Despite these coordinated efforts, the authorities reported that, to date, the aircraft has not been located nor have any traces been found that give clues to its whereabouts.
Location system failure
A worrying fact revealed by the Civil Aeronautics SAR Group is that the beacon (emergency locator) that the aircraft has has not been activated. This device is essential in cases of accidents, since it emits a signal to facilitate the exact location of the device, which makes tracking tasks even more difficult in the rugged area of the department of Norte de Santander.
There are 15 people on board the missing aircraft, including Congressman Diógenes Quintero and candidate Carlos Salcedo. The airline and the military authorities maintain all available resources active to find the whereabouts of the occupants, while the families continue to receive assistance through official channels.
