In an unusual search and control operation, the National Police managed to dismantle a method of transporting narcotics that attempted to evade surveillance in Medellín.
A 29-year-old man was captured in the South Terminal when he tried to enter the city carrying a vehicle muffler that, far from being an automotive spare part, served as a hiding place for a shipment of coca.
The suspect was intercepted by the uniformed officers at the 10th Street entrance, where his erratic behavior set off the authorities’ alarms.
According to the official report, the citizen raised suspicions due to his nervous attitude when he noticed the presence of the patrols. When required for an inspection, the police observed that the muffler was carefully wrapped in chewing gum paper (vinipel), but what really revealed the crime was the unusual weight of the metal piece.

After a thorough inspection of the inside of the escape, the agents found two plastic bags containing approximately 800 grams of coca base, ready to be processed or distributed in the local market.

This operation, which had the support of the security strategy of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, represents a blow to micro-trafficking networks that use inter-municipal transportation to move illegal merchandise.
The captured person was left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office, where he must answer for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.
Authorities at the city’s transportation terminals have intensified searches of unusual parcels and luggage, warning that criminals are resorting to pieces of machinery and spare parts to camouflage alkaloids.
