Minute30.com .- In what has been described by the Spanish Government as a “historic day”, the Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the urgent processing of a Royal Decree for the extraordinary regularization of foreigners. The measure seeks to bring nearly 500,000 people out of the shadows, granting them equal rights and strengthening the country’s economy.
The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, explained that this process responds to an undeniable social reality and resumes the spirit of the citizen initiative that gathered more than 700,000 signatures.
Who can apply?
To benefit from this exceptional process, interested parties must meet two fundamental conditions:
Previous residence: Prove that they were in Spain at least five months before December 31, 2025 (that is, having arrived no later than July 2025) and having stayed continuously.
Citizen conduct: Lack of criminal records both in Spain and in your country of origin.
Important information: Applicants for international protection (asylum) who have submitted their request before December 31, 2025 may also benefit from this measure.

The Spanish Government has established a specific time window to receive applications:
Opening: The platforms are expected to be enabled in early April 2026.
Closing: The maximum deadline to apply will be June 30, 2026.
Quick response: Once the application is accepted for processing, within a period of no more than 15 days, the person may begin to work legally on a provisional basis in any sector.
Benefits and duration of leave
Initial permission: A legal residence authorization will be granted for one year. At the end of this period, the beneficiary will be able to migrate to the ordinary figures of the Immigration Law.
Family protection: The measure allows for the simultaneous regularization of minor children who are in Spain; In this special case, the permit will be valid for 5 years.
Valid documentation: To demonstrate permanence, public or private documents such as the registry (registration), medical appointments, rental contracts or transportation passes will serve.

In addition to the regularization, the Executive approved financial aid for victims of railway accidents and reinforced the telematic monitoring of abusers, incorporating psychological support and technological improvements in the protection system for victims of gender violence.
