Minute30.com .- In an unprecedented operation coordinated by the Spanish National Police, with the collaboration of the DEA, Europol and Colombian authorities, the most powerful criminal network dedicated to cocaine trafficking across rivers and oceans was dismantled. The gigantic raid left 105 arrested and the seizure of more than 10 tons of drugs.
The criminal structure not only controlled the maritime routes, but had turned the Guadalquivir River and the coasts of the Canary Islands, Morocco and Portugal into its center of logistical operations.
Figures from a colossal operation
The balance of the offensive, carried out in two phases, reveals the economic power of this organization:
Detained: 105 people in 49 simultaneous registrations.
Seized drugs: 10,400 kilos of cocaine.
Fleet intervened: 30 high-speed boats and 70 vehicles.
Technology: Two hexacopters, jammers, offshore WIFI signal boosters and satellite phones.
Money and assets: More than 800,000 euros in cash and six luxury properties.
Logistics platforms in the middle of the ocean
What surprised NCA and DEA investigators most was the network’s logistical capacity. The traffickers created true “aquatic platforms” on the high seas, where the pilots of the drug boats remained on board for up to a month.
Smaller boats supplied them:
Fuel: They used storage centers with more than 100,000 liters of gasoline.
Food and clothing: Basic supplies for “notaries” (in charge of monitoring drugs).
Technology: Encrypted communication equipment to contact the “mother ships” that brought the drugs from Colombia and Brazil.
The price of silence: 12 million euros
The danger and secrecy of the organization were extreme. It was discovered that the network paid 12 million euros to the family of a crew member who died during a stash, with the sole purpose of guaranteeing their silence and preventing the police from tracing the links of the structure.
International Connection and the “Narcosubmarine”
The investigation determined that this network was responsible for introducing 57,000 kilos of cocaine into Europe in the last year alone. Thanks to intelligence shared with Portuguese authorities, a semi-submersible with 6,600 kilos of the substance was intercepted.
The operation, co-financed by the European Union, attacked the financial heart of the group in Campo de Gibraltar, dismantling the largest money laundering center and distribution of secure technology for drug traffickers in Andalusia.
