The Mayor’s Office of Cali made official this Tuesday, January 27, a profound shake-up in its work team. With the aim of recovering territorial control and improving urban order indicators, Mayor Alejandro Eder made strategic changes in key portfolios.

The president’s big bet is to reinforce security, an area that will now be under the command of experts with military training, seeking to respond to citizen criticism over crime and road chaos in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

The most talked about movement is the arrival of Javier Garcés to the Ministry of Security and Justice, replacing Jairo García. The new secretary is a retired lieutenant colonel of the Colombian Air Force (FAC) and has a career of more than 20 years in intelligence and strategic analysis.

With this technical profile, the mayor’s office intends to apply a much more rigorous operational approach to protect citizens and confront the criminal structures that have affected security in recent months.

Likewise, Sergio Moncayo Velásquez, also a retired colonel of the FAC and aeronautical administrator, will take over the Mobility Secretariat.

Moncayo, who had already been working in the agency as undersecretary, will have the difficult challenge of organizing traffic and improving regulatory compliance on the streets of Cali, replacing Gustavo Orozco.

On the other hand, the renowned journalist and political scientist Mábel Lara will leave the Ministry of Tourism to assume the Strategic Projects Management, where she will be in charge of leading initiatives with high economic and social impact for the city.

Finally, the communications team is also renewed with the arrival of Carlos Augusto Albán, an experienced communicator and political scientist with more than 35 years of experience.

These adjustments in the cabinet show that the mayor’s office is seeking more tactical execution and better coordination with citizens in a year that will be decisive for the stability of the capital of the Valley.
