Minute30.com .- Moments of maximum tension were experienced in the heart of El Poblado in Medellín. An alleged robbery attempt against a gringo citizen ended in an armed confrontation in which a National Police agent, using his weapon, wounded a subject who minutes before had shot the victim.

The events took place between Calle 10A and Carrera 37 and Carrera 42, near El Poblado Park, where the quick reaction of the authorities prevented the alleged criminal from escaping.

A gringo, the target of the theft

It was learned that a patrol that was passing through the sector was approached by a crowd of people. At the scene, a US citizen stated that the subject who was lying injured on the ground had tried to violently steal his belongings.

According to the victim’s testimony, the assailant did not hesitate to use a firearm, shooting him at chest level during the struggle. Fortunately, the wound was not fatal for the foreigner, but it triggered the immediate intervention of the authorities who were in the area.

In the midst of the confusion, a citizen identified himself to the surveillance patrol as an active member of the National Police. The uniformed man stated that, upon witnessing the attack against the American, he was forced to activate his service weapon to neutralize the aggressor, hitting him in the abdominal area.

While the alleged criminal was caught in flagrante delicto, a citizen who was at the scene and who identified herself as a doctor, helped the injured man in the first instance. The professional warned that the wound in the abdomen was extremely serious and required immediate surgery.

Due to the urgency, the alleged thief was taken in a taxi to a healthcare center and was taken into police custody.

The case has been initially reported as attempted homicide and qualified and aggravated robbery; crimes for which the attacker will have to answer.
