A 38-year-old man was prosecuted and sent to prison for his alleged responsibility in multiple attacks against his former partner, which occurred between 2015 and 2021 in the town of Bosa, southwest of Bogotá, and in the neighboring municipality of Soacha, Cundinamarca. The Attorney General’s Office advanced the investigation and requested the security measure in a prison center.

According to the investigation led by a prosecutor from the Care Center for Victims of Domestic Violence (CAVIF) of Soacha, the defendant subjected the victim, a 39-year-old woman, to physical, economic and psychological violence constantly for several years.

The first documented event occurred in 2015, when the man allegedly demanded the woman pay 2,500,000 pesos so as not to cause him harm. However, he did not stop there: he would have reached his home in Bosa and broke the windows, which led the victim to change his residence to Soacha for safety.

Later, in May 2017, the man allegedly threatened and hit the woman several times inside an apartment in the Nuevos Horizontes residential complex, in Soacha. The last recorded attack occurred in 2021, when the alleged attacker attacked her with a sharp weapon inside her home.

After collecting this evidence, the Prosecutor’s Office accused the man of the crime of aggravated domestic violence. The capture was carried out by uniformed members of the National Police on a public street in Cali, Valle del Cauca, materializing the court order.

The authorities reiterate the importance of reporting any act of violence or crime to Emergency Line 123, remembering that reporting is a fundamental step to guarantee the protection of victims and allow the corresponding judicial processes to proceed.
