The confidence of Paisa families in early childhood care is reflected in the figures. To date, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín reports that more than 25,000 boys, girls, pregnant and lactating mothers are already enrolled in the Buen Comienzo program for 2026.
This massive response from households confirms the importance of the comprehensive care services offered in the 16 communes and five townships of the city, seeking to guarantee the physical and cognitive development of the little ones from their first days of life.
With the aim that no minor is left out of the system, the mayor’s office recalled that enrollment remains constantly open in kindergartens and children’s centers.
This permanent access policy allows the institutional offer to reach every corner of the territory, ensuring that the most vulnerable children have the support of professionals in nutrition, pedagogy and psychology throughout the year, regardless of the month in which the space is requested.

The program operates under two main schemes: the institutional modality, which welcomes children between 0 and 5 years old in spaces designed for their learning, and the family modality, which provides close support to pregnant and lactating mothers along with their caregivers.

Additionally, initiatives such as “Nourish to Heal” focus on combating hunger, while “Buen Comienzo 365” ensures that food support does not stop during weekends or school recess periods, maintaining continuous protection.
The program management called on parents and caregivers who have not yet completed the process to come to the nearest care points.
The city’s commitment is that the effective enjoyment of children’s rights is the absolute priority, strengthening a care network that not only nourishes the body, but also lays the foundations for the future citizen through high-quality initial education with a social seal.
