A new episode of terror shook the tranquility of the town of El Plateado, in the rural area of Argelia, Cauca, after the detonation of a vehicle loaded with explosive material.
According to the official report from the authorities, the attack was directed against the local Police station and the units participating in Operation Perseus; However, an error in handling the device caused premature activation that prevented a massacre of incalculable proportions in this turbulent region of southwestern Colombia.
The vehicle, which was reduced to scrap, was driven by members of the Carlos Patiño structure, belonging to the FARC dissidents under the command of alias ‘Iván Mordisco’.
Apparently, the criminal plan consisted of placing the car bomb near the police facilities, but the explosive device detonated at an intermediate point, located dangerously close to an educational facility and several residential homes.
Despite the magnitude of the shock wave, which generated collective panic and structural damage to nearby facades, no fatalities were recorded among the civilian population.
