Moments of tension were experienced in the El Pinal neighborhood, in commune 8 of Medellín, after the total collapse of a home, an event that left at least two properties in the sector damaged. Thanks to a preventive evacuation on January 20, no injuries were reported.
The emergency was attended by the Official Fire Department of Medellín and the Administrative Department of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD), after a citizen call alerted about cracks and structural failures detected in a home during the early hours of Tuesday.
Carlos Quintero, director of the DAGRD, explained that after receiving the report to line 123, technical teams and relief organizations traveled to the site to carry out the corresponding inspection.
During the evaluation, considerable structural deterioration was evident, so the temporary evacuation of six homes was recommended, while more detailed studies were carried out.

This Wednesday, January 21, one of the previously evacuated homes completely collapsed, confirming the risk identified by the authorities.

The collapse caused additional damage to nearby structures, forcing the area to be cordoned off.
“We anticipated the disaster and managed to save the lives of six families who lived in these homes”said Quintero, who highlighted the importance of responding to community alerts in a timely manner.
The authorities continue with the technical evaluation of the buildings in the sector to determine if there are more risks and define if new preventive evacuations are required. In addition, support is being provided to affected families.
Finally, the DAGRD reiterated the call to citizens to immediately report any cracks, subsidence or signs of structural deterioration in homes or buildings, through line 123, in order to prevent major emergencies.
