Security in western Medellín received an important respite after a series of lightning operations led by the Metropolitan Police and the Prosecutor’s Office.

In a coordinated action, the authorities managed to capture three individuals dedicated to making extortionate payments that had merchants and residents of communes 11 (Laureles) and 13 (San Javier) in check.

The criminals, who used intimidation and alleged alliances with criminal groups in the sector, were caught red-handed thanks to the quick reaction of the quadrant patrols and the complaints of the victims.

In the San Javier sector, the intervention was concentrated in the Juan XXIII neighborhood. There, two men who were traveling on a motorcycle were intercepted by the uniformed officers after being accused of making illegal charges to the residents of the area.

Thanks to a report from the radio station, the Police managed to block their path and proceed with their immediate arrest.

These individuals, according to preliminary investigations, would be part of a network that seeks to control illicit income in the northwest of the city through constant pressure on small businesses.

On the other hand, in Laureles, a man was captured after entering a business premises and violently demanding money under the excuse that the contribution was “for the boys back home.”

The criminal tried to flee the establishment after obtaining the loot, but was intercepted a few blocks away by a patrol that had his exact physical description.

The three detainees were transferred to the URI of the Prosecutor’s Office, where the processes are being carried out for their prosecution for the crime of aggravated extortion.

The Medellín Security Secretariat highlighted that these blows are essential to restore tranquility to the city’s commercial corridors.

Likewise, they reiterated the invitation to citizens not to give in to the pressures of criminals and to use Gaula line 165 to report any attempt at vaccinations or illegal economic demands.
