The Junior of Barranquilla lived a bittersweet afternoon this Sunday, January 18 at the Metropolitan Roberto Meléndez stadium.
In what should have been a party to revalidate the recent title obtained in December, the “Tiburón” team ended up saying goodbye to their home with a surprising 2-0 defeat against Deportes Tolima.
The match, which once again pitted the finalists from the previous tournament, left a disappointment in the local fans who were expecting a victorious debut in the championship.
The effectiveness of the “Pijao” group was decisive in silencing the stands from early on. Just at minute 8, Juan Pablo ‘Tatay’ Torres opened the scoring, and shortly after, at minute 20, Jersson González sealed the match with the final second goal.
Despite the label of favorite with which the Barranquilla team arrived, the lack of offensive clarity prevented them from being able to overcome a score that was quickly sealed in the first half.

With a defeat! Junior said goodbye to the Metropolitano stadium: Remodeling work began
Beyond the sporting result, this match marked a historical milestone: it was the last match before the start of the remodeling work on the sports venue.
The defeat became a sad temporary farewell for fans, as the “Colossus of the Citadel” will close its doors to undergo an ambitious structural renovation.
These works are essential to comply with the international standards required for the venue’s next challenges.
The transformation project seeks to prepare the stadium to host the grand final of the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana.
Among the most notable improvements is the expansion of capacity, which will allow it to go from a capacity of 44,000 spectators to 60,000 people.
With this modernization, the home of the Colombian National Team is projected as one of the most impressive and capable stadiums on the continent.
