A new massacre in Padilla shook the north of the department of Cauca in the early hours of this Monday, January 19, after four people were violently murdered in the rural area of the municipality.
According to preliminary information, armed men broke into several homes in the El Chamizo district and opened fire on the people inside, causing the death of four inhabitants of the sector.
The attack occurred while the victims were resting, which increased the impact and indignation among the residents.

The authorities’ first hypotheses indicate that the massacre in Padilla would be related to disputes between gangs that commit crimes in this area of northern Cauca and conflicts with criminal structures from other municipalities.
According to investigations, the attackers would have arrived from Guachené to commit the crime. However, the victims would have no connection to these illegal confrontations. This was stated by the mayor of Padilla, Aidé Romero, who regretted what happened and defended the innocence of the murdered people.
“Those who were killed were all innocent, good people. One of them was already retired, his son was a worker. The other was a butler in a cabin and the last boy was disabled, he was not involved in anything bad; he took care of livestock on the farms around here”said the local leader.
The authorities are carrying out special operations in the area to find the whereabouts of those responsible.
