Three men were sentenced for conduct that resulted in the death of animals, following investigations carried out by the Attorney General’s Office and its units specialized in wildlife protection. The cases were recorded in Quindío, Magdalena and Valle del Cauca, and show different types of abuse, from shootings to prolonged abandonment.

In Buenavista, Quindío, Jarol Cuellar was held responsible for the death of a Siberian husky named ‘Niño’. On September 3, 2025, the man shot the dog several times in an act of intolerance. After the analysis of evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, a knowledgeable criminal judge sentenced Cuellar Arias to 1 year and 4 months in prison for the crime of killing an animal.

In Pijiño del Carmen, Magdalena, José Luis Miranda was found guilty of the death of a canine on a public street in the Villacampestre neighborhood, which occurred on July 29, 2025. The investigation, supported by the Group to Fight Animal Abuse (Gelma), established that Miranda García hit the dog with a stick, causing multiple injuries that caused its death. Due to these facts, a criminal judge with knowledge sentenced him to 2 years in prison for the crime of aggravated death of an animal.

In Rozo, Valle del Cauca, Edwin Zúñiga was sentenced to 1 year in prison for aggravated animal abuse. This animal kept a horse in a state of abandonment for a prolonged period, leaving it in an alley in critical condition. The horse was found by authorities prostrate on public roads, with multiple injuries and poor body condition, which ultimately led to its death on January 18, 2023.
