In commune 14 of Medellín, El Poblado, various urban and environmental interventions have been developed with the aim of transforming the territory into a more habitable and sustainable space. According to the Medellín Mayor’s Office, the actions carried out include the recovery of more than 847,000 square meters of public space, the modernization of 10,745 LED lights and the improvement of the urban road network.

The work has focused on improving infrastructure, green corridors and mobility, in addition to promoting the appropriation of public space. Among the most relevant initiatives is the Sendero de las Flores project, an environmental corridor in the La Presidenta ravine that involves corporations, neighborhoods and local cultural projects to consolidate an ecotourism route in the area.

Another significant intervention is La 10 x La 10, which included the repaving of 750 meters of road, the planting of 520 plants, the recovery of 627 square meters of green areas and the installation of 118 LED lights. These actions seek to improve mobility, security and the urban landscape of the commune.

Among the projects of appropriation of public space, the transformation of the INEM primary school wall, in El Poblado Park, stands out, which went from being a point of vandalism to a mural created by the children of the community, with more than 300 days without acts of vandalism.

In the area of ​​cleaning and maintenance, 225 interventions were carried out, which include the recovery of 847,857 square meters of public space, the cleaning of 377,774 square meters of green areas, the washing of 824 sinks and the collection of 696 cubic meters of solid waste.

In terms of mobility, 1,156 interventions were carried out on the road network, with improvements in more than three kilometers of urban roads, accompanied by the replacement of 10,745 lights, which increases nighttime visibility and the perception of safety in the commune.

At the same time, citizen awareness campaigns were carried out, such as “There are other ways to help” and “Prevention of human trafficking”, during night gatherings and community activities, with the aim of promoting co-responsibility in matters of security and coexistence.
