A street robbery ended up becoming a road tragedy that left three people dead and several injured on 68th Avenue and 72nd Street, one of the busiest areas of Bogotá.
The case occurred on January 15, when a chase that began after a robbery led to a violent multiple crash.
Among the fatal victims is an elderly married couple, identified as Clara Lucía and Santiago, both 68 years old, who had no relationship with the theft.
The couple was traveling in a private vehicle and was trapped in the middle of the impact. Santiago died at the scene, while his wife was taken to a care center, where she died hours later.

According to authorities and security camera footage, the incident occurred when two men on a motorcycle stole the belongings of a driver who was parked after leaving a restaurant.

The assault was carried out in less than ten seconds. After the robbery, the criminals fled along Carrera 68C, at which point the victim decided to chase them.
During the chase, the truck hit the motorcycle of the alleged thieves and later several vehicles stopped in a traffic jam, including a gray car and a dump truck.
One of the criminals died immediately, while the second was injured and remains in police custody, awaiting legalization of his capture.
The driver who started the chase was linked to criminal proceedings, while authorities are collecting evidence to establish his degree of responsibility. The bodies of the three victims remain in Forensic Medicine.
